Frequently asked questions

Measurement Guidelines:

  • Minimum depth for installation: 40mm
  • Side Channels size: 26mm x 34mm (1 inch x 1.5 inch)
  • Dimensions required: Overall finished blind size width and drop

Recess Measurements:

  • For a square recess, leave a minimum gap of 3mm around the blind.
  • Measure in at least three places (top, middle, and bottom), then deduct 6mm overall from the smallest size.

Skewed Recesses:

  • Ideally, blinds should be square.
  • If gaps (shown in red) are large, consider using a cosmetic coverstrip after installation.

Splayed Recesses:

  • Choose the tightest size minus 6mm as the overall blind size width.
  • Large gaps can be hidden using a cosmetic coverstrip after installation.

Ally Angle Shelf Kits:

  • Can be used to create a ‘shelf’ for blinds and hide recess unevenness.
  • Standard ally angle shelf kits are 25mm wide.
  • If gaps exceed 15mm, consider using PVC coverstrips.
  • Shelf kits are required for double or multi-SkyTrak installations to support side channels.
  • SkyTrak does not require fixings at the head or foot of the blind.

Measuring for Ally Angle Shelf Kits:

  • Profile thickness: 2mm
  • Minimum gap: 3mm

Electrical Installation Guide

Solar Panel Installation

  • Each solar panel comes with brackets, but it may be easier to place it on top of the blind head box.
  • If worried about vibration, secure it with silicone or double-sided tape.
  • The solar panel cable is 2.5m long, allowing flexible placement for maximum sunlight exposure.
  • Plug the solar panel directly into the battery charging port.

Mains Power Installation

  • The mains transformer is located inside the head box at the fabric end of the blind.
  • To access the transformer:
  • Cable Installation:

Power Cable Guidelines

  • AC 240V cable connects to the INPUT side of the transformer.
  • + Terminal = LIVE- Terminal = NEUTRAL.
  • 0.75mm twin-core flex cable is sufficient for installation.
  • The transformer is double-insulated, so no earth connection is required.

Sunshade Blinds are a framed honeycomb pleated blind which can be fitted horizontally, vertically or sloping. They can provide light filtering shade or a blackout solution. They can even act as a bug screen.

Our sunshades don’t just block out light—they also help reduce noise, creating a quieter and more comfortable space. Made from high-quality, dense materials, they absorb and dampen sound waves, minimizing outside noise from traffic, neighbors, or other disturbances. This makes them ideal for homes, offices, or any environment where peace and quiet are essential. By adding an extra layer of insulation to your windows, our sunshades help create a calmer, more relaxing atmosphere while also enhancing privacy.

Any square or rectangular window, door or skylight. There are minimum and maximum sizes depending on the particular model of Sunshade Blind.

Pleated Blinds are made from two sheets of lightweight fabric that are folded to create an accordion effect. Also known as honeycomb or cellular fabric with their beehive-like, hexagonal pockets. The fabric feels like paper but it is not - it is incredibly robust.

Pleated blackout fabrics have an internal foil coating which prevents any light coming through.

There are three type of pleated fabrics used for Sunshade Blinds.

Blackout - the honeycomb has a metallic lining to prevent any light bleed through it.

Light filtering - the honeycomb will have a white backing which goes window-side and the coloured side internally to the room.

We do not offer a colour matching service.

The simplest way is manually - you just pull it to wherever you want it. If you can’t reach then you can add a pole. But for convenience and to help the longevity of blinds you can motorise. The blinds will open and close at the touch of a button or if you upgrade to a Somfy motor with a smart hub you can automate them to open or close at set times.

The specific blinds that we sell on this store are straight-forward to install and come with easy to understand instructions on how to do it.

Sunshade Blinds are inherently child-safe. There are no looped cords to pose a risk of strangulation. With the light blocking when using the blackout fabric, they are ideal for children’s bedrooms to encourage them to sleep just that little longer!

Yes. The motors can be connected to solid state Lithium batteries hidden in the frame. These will need charging once every 6-12 months depending on the use and size of blind. You may need an extension lead to connect the charger to if the plug socket is at a distance.

The product guarantee is for one-year, but since 2020, this blind has been consistently produced using the same reliable motors and hardware, resulting in very few issues over the years. Each blind undergoes a thorough quality check immediately before dispatch.

The only component that may require maintenance or replacement is the battery pack. The battery’s life expectancy varies depending on usage; however, Sunshade Blinds are typically moved only 2 to 4 times daily. Consequently, we estimate a minimum battery life expectancy of 5 years. Note that using a battery charger which was not supplied with the blind could reduce battery life dramatically.

Our fabrics are all cellular, expecting to remain in excellent condition for at least 10 years.

All components are well-protected from the sun. The cords are shielded by the fabric when the blind is closed, which is when the sun is shining and the blind is in use. All other plastic parts are UV-resistant.

Yes you can. When you are configuring your blind there is a text box where you can put your address and it will automatically add a price. If you don't want the installment service, leave the box blank. The cost will be added to your basket.

Please note - we only offer an installation service in KENT, SUSSEX, SURREY and SOUTH LONDON.

Cleaning the Fabric

Clean using a clean, dry duster. Be careful not to damage the pleats by pressing too hard. Use a hairdryer to blow debris off the back of the blinds and then vacuum. Close the blind and be sure to open the air valve so as not to vacuum too hard and damage the fabric.

Cleaning Aluminum Parts

The aluminum parts can be cleaned with a glass cleaner, which should not cause any damage to the powder coating.

Additional General Advice

Avoid using chemical cleaning agents or sand products for the cleaning. Despite being made of resistant materials, the surface of the blinds can still be damaged by aggressive cleaning agents.

Because of that, never use the following:

  • Solvents
  • Cleaning sands
  • Cleaning pastes
  • Organic thinners
  • Strong alkaline cleaning detergents

Only use the following to clean the blinds:

  • Detergent-water mixture
  • Soap-water mixture

Also make sure that the sponge or rag material is not too rough. It is better to use an actual sponge or rag as opposed to steel wool.

To retain the crispness of the pleats on your blinds, regular bunching (i.e. compressing the blind in the open position) is advised, ideally at least once every 14 days, overnight.
